Welcome to the Google Sheets Tips newsletter #313, your Monday morning espresso, in spreadsheet form! I published my first Google Sheets tutorial 10 years ago, in October 2014. Wow, time flies! Since then, I’ve published 250+ free tutorials on my website, 313 editions of this newsletter, and 21 online courses. We live in an amazing age where it’s possible for an individual contributor to reach a global audience with their ideas. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to experience that. I want to continue helping you in this way for the next five years, then the next five after that. This Thursday, I'm sending a special email announcing what's coming next to help you on your journey. My mission remains the same: to help as many of you as possible with Sheets, data analysis, and automation. See you on Thursday! In the meantime, in today's newsletter, we're looking at a nifty way to add dates to your Google Sheets, via the @-menu. This was introduced ~2 years ago, so it's relatively new to the Sheets world. It's super easy to use so I encourage you to check it out! ➜ NewsI. In Sheets, we see this with the file smart chips that show file metadata. The next phase of integration is with third-parties. Third-party smart chips, which pull in rich data from third-party apps, are now available in Google Docs. I imagine we'll see these available in Sheets too, in the not too distant future. II. ➜ Sheets Tip #313: The "@" Date MenuA nice, easy topic for this week, but one that is nevertheless super useful! Take a blank cell in your Sheet and type "@" followed by "date": Typing "@date" into a cell brings up the date picker object, with today's date highlighted. Press Enter to select today's date or use the picker to select a different date. Other @ Date menu choicesThere are a several other date menu choices available. Try typing the following:
Did I miss any? What else does the "@" menu offerThe "@" menu is more than just dates of course. You can also add people, files, calendar events, emojis and components like Tables, Rating chips, or Dropdowns! If you enjoyed this newsletter, please forward it to a friend who might enjoy it. Have a great week! Cheers, P.S. Mail is crazy! |

Hi Reader, Welcome to the Google Sheets Tips newsletter #363, your Monday Tuesday* morning espresso, in spreadsheet form! (* arriving in your inbox on a Tuesday, because it was Columbus Day in the US yesterday.) Almost two years ago, I launched a course called "The AI Playbook for Google Sheets", which explored how to use basic AI inside Sheets. (Fun fact: this was my last course launch!) A lot has changed since then! Today, Gemini and other AI tools can manipulate data, generate formulas,...
Brought to you by: Hi Reader, Welcome to the Google Sheets Tips newsletter #362, your Monday morning espresso, in spreadsheet form! Last week I finished recording and editing all the video lessons for the new Modern Google Sheets course (woohoo!). I keep track of progress in a Google Sheet (where else of course!) using Tables and dropdown chips: (click to enlarge) I'm using Tables extensively now in my Sheets work. I find the benefits over plain data—such as the dropdown chips, table...
