Sheets Tip 364: Keep track of important tabs

Hi Reader,

Welcome to the Google Sheets Tips newsletter #364, your Monday morning espresso, in spreadsheet form!

Thanks to the hundreds of you who signed up for the Modern Google Sheets course last week. I'm excited to teach the workshops, which start next week.

And thanks for your patience with the extra course promotion emails. We're now back to business as usual, with the once-a-week Google Sheets Tips newsletter.

Lastly, Happy Halloween!

It's a fun night here in our little town. Most of town seems to get involved, either joining the throngs of trick or treaters (especially if you have young children) or handing out the candy. It's nice to see all my neighbors, although sometimes I can't tell who I'm talking to because 1) it's dark and 2) everyone's wearing silly costumes.

➜ Sheets Tip #364: Keep track of important tabs

Today I'm sharing a simple trick that helps keep your tabs (sheets) organized effectively inside your Google Sheet file.

If you have a lot of tabs, it can be hard to spot the one you're after because they all look the same.

Here's how to make the important tabs stand out:

Step 1: Add color

Right click a tab and select the "Change color" option to add a subtle color to the base of the tab.

This helps, but I find it too subtle on its own.

Step 2: Add a pin emoji 📌

Copy and paste the pin emoji 📌 into the tab name for a surefire way to make the tab easy to find.

Step 3: Move important tabs to the first position

I often also move my important tabs to the first position in my Sheet, which makes them easy to find.

Now you'll never lose track of your important tabs again!

Have a spooky week!

Cheers,
Ben

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and feel...

Brought to you by: Hi Reader, Welcome to the Google Sheets Tips newsletter #369, your Monday morning espresso, in spreadsheet form! We had our first snowfall of the season last Friday, so winter is definitely underway here in the Mid-Atlantic region. It was only a light dusting though, so the sleds are still hanging in the garage. For now. In this issue, we're looking at a clever way to add visual clues to our data tables with indicator arrows ▲🔻. And, if you're a Workspace customer, you must...
