Welcome to the Google Sheets Tips newsletter #362, your Monday morning espresso, in spreadsheet form! Last week I finished recording and editing all the video lessons for the new Modern Google Sheets course (woohoo!). I keep track of progress in a Google Sheet (where else of course!) using Tables and dropdown chips: I'm using Tables extensively now in my Sheets work. I find the benefits over plain data—such as the dropdown chips, table references, and data validation—are well worth the effort of setting up. As you can see in the preview image above, we use Tables a lot in the new course too. I'll show you all the best practices and tips for making the most of these powerful new tools. The course will be available from Monday, 20th October. Now, on to today's newsletter... ➜ NewsI. (Conditional Notifications are available to all Google Workspace customers.) ➜ Sheets Tip #362: Easy way to convert measurementsIn this tip, we look at a useful function in Google Sheets: the CONVERT function. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and converts values from one unit of measure to a different unit of measure. And it has a surprisingly large number of available unit conversions. It's very easy to use. Give it the value to convert, the start unit, and the end unit. Here are some examples: Temperature Conversion=CONVERT(A2, "C", "F") Speed Conversion=CONVERT(A2, "mph", "km/h") Distance ConversionAnd, for our future spacefaring kids asking how far it is to the next galaxy, here's how to convert a Parsec into miles. =CONVERT(A2, "parsec", "mi") If you enjoyed this newsletter, please forward it to a friend who might enjoy it. Have a great week! Cheers, |
